EMERGENCY IN CAMEROON
Dear friends, members, clergy,
Our Church in Cameroon is in great need. Our Community House and chapel in Yaoundé is to be leveled to the ground for a public road! This means that Msgr. Joseph, our orphans, and our community there will be homeless in a matter of a week or two.
This Community House and Chapel - the centre of our Church in Cameroon - was built through the labour and resources of Msgr. Joseph, parishoners and friends in . It was built on land donated by a benefactor. Unbeknowest to Msgr. Joseph, this land was zoned as public land and so at the disposal of the government. Late last week, Msgr. Joseph was advised that a road would be built literally through the house. Although he had been cited a 45 day timeline, construction of the road started this week and will reach the house within 10 days.
Our Church does not provide housing or living expenses to our clergy. Each of us must provide for our own living space and expenses.
Msgr. Joseph, with a little ongoing help from our Church, has been providing for his needs, those of the orphans and his Church ministry. But, the current situation is obviously extraordinary. This is the reason I am reaching out to all of you.
I asked Msgr. Joseph to give me the costs he is looking at. Here are the details:
For immediate rental for the community house, they need a house of 3 rooms: 1 living room 1 kitchen 2 showers and need to pay 6 months in advance plus 2 months of deposit at the rate of 100000XAF (233CAD) per month for a total amount 800000XAF (1860CAD).
For the purchase of land to build a house, they have an offer of a plot of 250 square meters at 6000XAF per square meter, the total amount being 1500000XAF (3480CAD).
Msgr. Joseph has received a donation of 25000XAF (58CAD).
Although these amounts may not seem big by Canadian standards, they are a challenge. Our recent appeal for funding for care of orphans brought in a few donations, most one-time donations rather than monthly commitments.
Can you help Msgr Joseph and our Cameroon church?
